The light side of the force…

“In order for the light to shine so brightly, the darkness must be present.”

Francis Bacon

It seems to me that the drama of life take place between two opposites. There is light and there is darkness, there is good and there is evil…

Yes, night comes just after a good day ends, winter comes after the colours of autumn fade away and storm comes after we enjoyed a nice weather. This is how our Word works. It is not good, it is not bad. It is a fact. Continue reading

The battle of opposites

It seems that the drama of life take place between two opposites. There is light and there is darkness, there is good and there is evil, there is motivation and there is demotivation, there is inspiration and there is desperation … In my opinion this is one of the most important lessons in our life. We should understand that we need both to enjoy the drama of life, to enjoy the journey. Even though often does not seems like this is the best way to us! Continue reading

Long live the King, long live the Queen!

It was one of these days normal days… My friend and business partner Ad invited me for a lunch. As we have not seen each other for over a month he booked a table at Joelia in Rotterdam, just opposite our office. It is quite good restaurant and we enjoyed amuses with nice fresh with wine when suddenly he said: look our King and Queen are walking by. Continue reading

Looking back, looking forward…

I like the last day of the year. It is symbolic day. We are closing a chapter of our life story and we are opening a new one. It is the time to look back and the time to look forward.

Let’s start with looking back at 2016. I like to look at my past as at school. In the end, we are here to learn and to check whom can we become. Life is the best teacher. If you are not careful it will give you a test first and after the test will teach you a lesson. Continue reading

Celebrating Birthday = Celebrating Life

Birthday is always a great moment to reflect on our life and I had quite a birthday this year! It all started early in the morning in Gdansk, Poland.

I had a meeting at 8:30 in the office and I knew that from 12:30 I will be on my way to Rotterdam in the Netherlands. At the office my employees had a surprise for me. Good start of a day.  Than I had some meetings, phone calls etc. Business as usual.

In the meantime, wishes and congratulations were pouring via mail, Facebook, LinkedIn, SMS, WhatsApp etc. At 12:30 I said goodbye to my employees and rushed to the airport. I needed to catch up a plain which should bring me to Warsaw. There I had an hour to transfer to another plane to fly to Amsterdam. In Amsterdam, a car was waiting for me to bring me home to celebrate birthday with my wife and kids. All well planned and organized…except for the weather. It was snowing both in Gdansk and Warsaw… Continue reading

We are all in a communication business

I am an investor. Most of the companies I invest in do have strong IT component. As you probably know IT people are not the best in communication.

About a week ago my business partner said something that stick to my mind. He said that we are in a communication business.

When I thought about it, I realized it is true not only for a business. I believe that our life is the communication business as communication is the way we translate our thoughts into something that can be received and understood by others. Continue reading

Finding the perfect balance…

One of the biggest challenges in life is how to find the perfect balance. We all need time for us, time for our dearests, time for community… We need to work, but we need to rest as well. We need to study and we need to teach. Is there the best way to find the balance?

I do believe there is. Someone wise said: “those who seek will find” …

This is the best way! We need to realize that the perfect balance for us will not be given to us by work regulations or marketing messages which fight not only for our money but also for our time. It will not be revealed by people who seek our attention.

We need to learn how to listen to our body to our mind and to our soul and respond adequately.  We need to seek within not out there! But the most important is that we need to seek continuously!

The true nature of balance is that it is dynamic. We need to tune it minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day…

Which bridge to cross and which to burn…

Les Brown once said that:

Life is a fight for territory. Once you stop fighting for what you want, what you don’t want will automatically take over.

Generally we have two options in life. To go on and do everything that is required to get where we want to be or to give up.

However often, even if we do all we can, we just don’t move in the right direction. It can be frustrating and demotivating.

In this situation very often there are 3 places we should look for the reasons: our life philosophy, our attitude and our activities.

Maybe we want to do something, to reach something or to become someone for the wrong reasons. Deep inside it is not important or valuable to us.

Maybe our attitude is just not right for what we want. It does not have to be negative, it can simple be not positive enough…

Maybe we are doing things that keep us busy, but do not move us in the right direction.

No matter what the reason is in this kind of situation we will have to decide. Do I want to search for the answers or is the price I need to pay too high for me.

As David Russel so beautifully puts it into words:

The hardest thing in life to learn is which bridge to cross and which to burn.

If your “why” is clear and strong, your attitude is right and you desire things for reasons that are in harmony with your life philosophy, you will find the way. You may lose a battle or two, but in the end you will win your war and you will get what you desire.

But if your “why” is not clear or strong enough, the price to pay will always be too high.

Which brings me to my good wish for you and for me for the coming week. May our “why’s” be clear and strong and may our dreams and goals will be in harmony with our values.

This should be enough for us to know which bridges we should cross and which we should burn.
