In April 2015 I had a privilege to spend some time with famous motivational speaker Mr. Les Brown. I was with Les and his Team while he delivered one of his great speeches to more than 25.000 people in Poznan, Poland. I was so inspired by this event that I wrote a blog about it titled A day with a legend .

After his performance, we had some private time in his Sky Box at the stadium. While relaxing, and listening to other speakers he asked me to tell him about myself.

What if…

I love my daily walks. When I walk my eyes automatically are searching for things of beauty, things that make my soul smile. Sometimes it is a flower reaching for the first glimpse of sun or a butterfly flying without clear logic. It can be face of a person passing by on a bike or a formation of clouds on the endless sky. But even more than searching for things of beauty I like to think.

Often when I walk I play in my head a mental game. I call it the “What if” game. In my thoughts I start with “what if” and then I am adding a condition. Than I am trying to imagine how it would be if the condition was true. Continue reading

Good Motivational Event – count me in!

Last week I’ve spent a day on a motivational event organized by a friend of mine in London. With speakers like Les Brown, Althea Grant, Dr. Stacie NC Grant, Steve Woody and Mindy Gibbins-Klein I knew it would be a great event.

Time flies when you have fun!

When I started my adventure with Goodchange I didn’t know it will grow to 10.000 Facebook likes so quickly.

Now we are there so I decided to put together a small booklet as a gift to all of you who decided to like the Goodchange page on Facebook and get involved in it.

I want to be frank with you. I do what I do because I like it! It is a great way for me to think about life and to check my ideas with ideas of others. On the way I found out that there are quite a lot of people who are enjoying the things I am doing on Goodchange.

Now I have an extra motivation. The extra motivation is you!

As long as there is a chance to learn something new I intend to do what I started at Goodchange.

Let’s dream

Let’s talk about dreams today.

Do you have a dream? I am sure you do and if you don’t… Well, you should allocate some time to think about it.

But first let’s define a dream. What is a dream actually?

For me a dream is an idea, a vision that is created in our imagination about the future state of reality. A dream is about who we want to be, with whom we want to be, how we want to live, what we want to do, what we want to have, what we want to achieve etc. etc. etc.

What I like about the human mind is that our mind can create a vision that is almost real.

I am sure you had a dream which was so realistic that you couldn’t tell if it had actually happened?

I read somewhere that our brain does not really make a distinction between realities and dreams. The picture we can see in our dreams, the voices we can hear, the scents we can smell are for the brain as real as pictures we see on the street, voices we hear in the office or scents we can pick up in a flower garden. I do not know if this is true, but it seems like that to me.

Abraham Lincoln once said that the best way to predict the future is to create it. What I know is that the only way to create a future is to see it in our dreams first.

Anything created by man was first conceived in his mind. Someone had a dream of “it” before “it” could become reality. So a dream is not reality, but it is very close to it. A dream is not tangible but there is a very thin border between a dream and its outcome.

Please understand me right. I do not promise anybody that every dream will come true, but what I can promise you is that if you do not have a dream it will not become reality!

I have this dream of living a good life. For me a good life is quite well define. I can see me being with my wife as friends and life partners. We are traveling a lot, visiting our children, grandchildren and friends. Walking around in the nature and places of culture. I can feel the wind on my face while climbing with my wife a hill in the forest and I can feel the hot sun on my head while sitting on a city square in Italy sipping nice wine and looking at the amazing architecture around us. I can see me working hard on becoming a man of value. A man that has something to share. I am surrounded with people I respect. We are talking about new ideas, new possibilities. I do not have financial stress. I am smiling and I can feel that what I do has a positive impact on others.

I could go on and on and on… as my dream is very clear to me, and what is more important it is so appealing that it is one of the most powerful inspirational forces for me. From this force I am consciously setting myself goals. Personal development goals, financial goals, business goals. My dream has this incredible pulling power. It makes me stand up early, work hard and go to bed late.

It not only inspires me but also motivates me through my daily activities.

Les Brown once said: “If you take responsibility for yourself you will develop a hunger to accomplish your dreams.”

Therefore I would like to invite you to become a master dreamer, to take responsibility for yourself and develop a hunger to live it. If you will I am sure your dreams will come true!

Energy barrier and catalysts

This week I have heard a speech of Mr. Wang. He is a chemist and works with Shell. But he was not talking about petrol or chemical formulas. He was talking about relations and chemistry. He said that in chemistry if you want to reach a new relation between existing reactants you need to cross an energy barrier.

It is long time ago that I had my chemistry classes, but it made me think. Generally what I understood from the story is that an existing situation is bonded together by a strong energy force. If we want to change anything we need to break this bond by using activation energy first. Only when the activation energy is strong enough it can break the bond and a new state can be achieved.

Mr. Wang also said that there are some substances called catalysts that, when added to an environment, can speed up the reaction.

This is all about chemistry for now, let’s think a bit about life instead.

If we want to change anything in our life we need to go from one state to another. Like in chemistry this process needs our effort.

The amount of effort will depend on what we want to achieve on the one side and on our current state on the other site.

Have you ever been in a situation when you are putting an effort to change something and it does not work?

It happens to me regularly so I am sure you know what I am talking about.

At this point the catalyst idea kicks in. It just might be that the effort I am using to go from one state to another is not enough. Maybe I need a catalyst to speed up the process? It works like that in chemistry, could it work in real life as well?

When I think about it I am sure it can. I think that I also know some of the catalysts. The short list would consist of:

  1. Inspiration / Desperation
  2. Motivation
  3. Attitude
  4. Knowledge and skills
  5. Relations and people around us

The inspiration and desperation are basic catalysts. Both work the same way by preparing the environment for a new reaction. Inspiration or desperation are the only things that will make us want to change anything.

Motivation is the energetic catalyst, necessary to ignite our attitude towards the change. Only when our attitude is up and positively running can we do positive activities.

But when the energy barrier is huge we will need some extra catalysts. We will need knowledge and skills to fight the energy barrier. Knowledge and skills will give us the answer to the important question: how?

But what if the required knowledge and skills are out of our reach? Does it mean that the change is impossible for us?

No, we have another 2 catalysts that can help us. Relations and people around us. These 2 are the most powerful catalysts. When well used they can make the impossible happen. You see, what we can’t do, others can. It is just a question of finding the right people and building the right team.

So if you have a big dream, if you have a big goal and you are struggling to reach it, check if you have the right catalysts. If not, go and get them. This can be the only way to get through the energy barrier and achieve a new, desired state.
